FAQ

This page answers common questions about counseling, my approach, and what to expect when getting started.

How do I know if counseling is right for me?

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, grieving, or unsure how to move forward, counseling may be helpful. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit. Many people begin therapy simply because they want support navigating a difficult season of life.

What types of issues do you specialize in?

I specialize in grief and loss, aging and life transitions, caregiver support, and trauma. I also work with anxiety and depression that often accompany these experiences. My focus is helping adults make sense of change and feel more steady during uncertain times.

Do you work with older adults?

Yes. Many of my clients are adults in midlife and later adulthood navigating retirement, health changes, loss, or caregiving. I deeply value the wisdom and complexity that come with this stage of life.

Do you accept insurance?

I accept traditional Medicare. If you are unsure about your coverage, I’m happy to talk through your options during a consultation.

What are your session fees?

My fee is $200 per session. Payment can be made by cash, check, or credit card kept securely on file.

Do you offer in-person or online sessions?

I offer in-person counseling in Dallas as well as secure online therapy throughout Texas. We can discuss which format feels most comfortable and accessible for you.

What is EMDR and how does it help?

EMDR is a research-supported therapy that helps the brain process distressing memories so they feel less intense and intrusive. It can be especially helpful for trauma, complicated grief, and experiences that still feel emotionally charged.

What can I expect in our first session?

In our first session, we’ll talk about what brings you to therapy and what feels most pressing right now. I’ll ask questions to better understand your history and your goals, and we’ll begin to discuss what working together might look like.

How long will I need to be in therapy?

The length of therapy varies depending on your goals and the nature of what you’re working through. Some people come for a shorter season of focused support, while others benefit from longer-term work. We’ll check in regularly to ensure our work feels meaningful and aligned with your needs.

I’ve never been to therapy before. What if I don’t know what to say?

That’s completely okay. You don’t need to have the “right words” or a clear plan. My role is to help guide the conversation and create a space where you can explore at your own pace.

Is everything we discuss confidential?

Yes. What you share in therapy is confidential, with a few legal exceptions related to safety that we will review together at the beginning of our work. Creating a safe and private space is very important to me.
